Abu Dhabi - United Arab Emirate Back home

I had the opportunity of spending 4 days in Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emerite. As usual I had some time on my own to investigate the bird life and my camera equipment with me. Unlike other places I have been to it was very difficult to find and then photograph the birds of the area. I did photograph most of the birds that I saw, and half of them were introduced birds, not native. Even though it was the end of October it was still hot and I was reminded by an Emerite that the temperature had come down 30 degrees from July.

In an effort to find more birds I walked from the hotel to an area that showed mangroves on the map. When I got there I found the building site pictured in the bottom of this page. Ironically the site was called The Eastern Mangroves. I was disapointed. Real mangroves are a good habitat for a variety of birds. Eventually I found an area of real mangroves nearby that was populated by fisherman and parents waiting for their children to return from a kayak lesson. While standing there I did have a Spotted Sandpiper fly in. Ironically this is the same species of sandpiper that I find regularly in the U.S.

I saw approximately 15 species of birds, but this includes species that were not taken to the species level such as a couple of gulls, and tern and a falcon. While visiting the Grand Mosque I had a falcon fly overhead and that seemed very fitting.
